Apple has a strange policy regarding lossless transmission over AirPlay. If you use the old version of AirPlay (for easier distinction: AirPlay 1), it ensures lossless quality. With AirPlay 2, lossless is available only if the app or receiver forces the use of AirPlay 1. Fun fact: this means that if you listen to an Apple Music song with lossless quality using Airplay 2, it’s downgraded to lossy 256 kbps AAC ¯\(ツ)/¯ Source: Darko Audio, “Apple AirPlay's audiophile 'Easter Egg'” https://youtu.be/Tz4gkosaR-c?si=YI0hkrgHQ8pOWgVW But you don’t have to watch the whole clip cause I have screenshotted the most important table (see the attachment). However, as mentioned earlier, apps are allowed to force AirPlay 1 with lossless quality. Is it possible for LongPlay to implement such functionality? If so, it would be great to have a switch for advanced users, even for an extra fee. Losslessheads are used to paying more for their audio — sometimes it even makes them happier xD. (I’m just afraid Apple might block such a possibility if you use the Apple Music library — but maybe they won’t.) This could actually be an effective selling point. There are many Apple Music users who currently have to downgrade their experience by using cables and dongles, buying an AirPlay 1 receiver, or paying extra for another music streaming service, etc. If Apple doesn’t allow users to change this setting within the app and you (the developer) have to define AirPlay behavior for the whole app, I would even suggest forking the project, implementing AirPlay 1 support, calling the new app something like LongPlay+, and selling it alongside LongPlay for a higher price.
