AirPlay to speakers doesn't work

I have shairport-sync running on Raspberry PI connected to DAC and large speakers. Apple Music app works flawlessly in this setup, even remembers last selected AirPlay destination.
Longplay shows Raspberry PI in the list of AirPlay destination, so it seems to be aware of its existence, but when I select it, it still plays locally on Mac.

- Correct, there is no DRM - most of it is ripped CDs
- I am trying to use Airplay button in Longplay app

andrei_c: Thanks.
I did a bit of research and the mechanism that Apple exposes for the built-in button indeed only supports AirPlay 2. Documentation on how to support AirPlay 1 at that level is hard to find, but there are some old posts around. I'm lacking an AirPlay 1 device to test, but will see if I can find one.
A workaround is to use the system-level setting (e.g., via Control Center) to route all audio to the AirPlay 1 speaker. Not ideal but that should work.

AirPlay 1 speakers are hard to find... I might give
shairport-sync
a try.By the way, according to the docs that does seem to support AirPlay 2, as well. That should then work, too, andrei_c.

I'll look into that - didn't realize there was an update that supports AirPlay 2. Thanks for the investigation.

andrei_c Just to confirm: This is for playing non-DRM-protected music through Longplay on your Mac, and you're using the AirPlay button in the app?

Other AirPlay destinations like AppleTV or HomePod work as expected, so it's just "dumb speakers" (AirPlay 1 probably) that's an issue.
