Open Album in Apple Music

I've added this in the recent 2.2 update. Long tap an album and select "Show in Music".
(It might silently fail if the album couldn't be found on Apple Music though.)

Is this the same as using the Apple Music player? The other day i wanted to look at a song's lyrics as it was playing. I couldn't because Longplay doesn't use the system music player. I think it used to.
Adrian Schönig
Todd Chapman: It used, too, yes, but the system player has a lot of limits that’s why I moved away from it. This feature wouldn’t use the system player either, but instead let you open the album’s page in the Music app.

Adrian Schönig: what kind of limit? Could it be an option to use the system player?
Adrian Schönig
Todd Chapman: Most 2.0 features such as the album queue, infinite album shuffle, interactive widgets, scrobbling, the track list, or CarPlay support. Those don’t work well if Longplay itself is a “remote” for the Music app rather than being its own music player (with its own queue and being allowed to run in the background).
I did spend quite some time on making it an option and then disabling those features, but I did not like how it made the codebase more complicated while effectively taking the app backwards, so I’ve put that on ice.

My main use case is to use Apple Music’s ability to „control other speakers”, i.e. start the album on HomePod instead of streaming via AirPlay.
Great to see it is in Progress.
Adrian Schönig
Adam Wróbel: For the case of controlling other speakers, that’s already possible in Longplay. There’s a button for it on the in-app now playing screen (on the right of the albums), or via Control Centre (long tap the now playing widget and tap the AirPlay button).

Adrian Schönig This is not what I meant by „controlling other speaker”. What you refer to is AirPlaying to a speaker. I mean telling my HomePod to play music in a way that my phone is no longer involved. I can turn it off and the HomePod will play on its own.
Adrian Schönig
Adam Wróbel: Thanks for clarifying.
That's not possible until Apple provides an SDK for the HomePod and lets you install apps on it. Direct playback on HomePod is supported via the HomePod API for third-party streaming services, but that's not applicable for an app like Longplay.

Adrian Schönig But LongPlay plays the music from my Apple Music Library that is already available on HomePod. If I had an option to open the album in Apple Music (this is what this thread is about) then I would be able to start playing the album directly on the HomePod.

I’d like to add that I would be interested in an option to have the widgets open albums in Apple Music, and maybe also start playing them, if such a thing is possible.
Adrian Schönig
Jeremy Kanter: There's a bit of discussion about that in the "Integrate with Apple Music" request. On integrating the widgets more directly with Apple Music's playback: my current stance in short is that this opens a can of worms that I'm not keen about tackling.

Adrian Schönig: Ah, makes sense. Thanks!
